There's an obscure little (and short--I think maybe a half hour) French film by Chris Marker: La Jetee.

The entire film is told in black and white stills, and narrated.
The memorable scene is when the protagonist sees the woman he loves. The still showing her sleeping face gradually becomes a movie, and you notice her breathing while she sleeps. Doesn't sound like much, but in context, wow!

[La Jetee was later remade as a color film by Alan Resnais--a terrible film, a terrible waste-- called "J'Etaime, j'taime." And it was also the basis of the Terry Gilliam movie, "The 12 Monkeys."]
