The song was apparently a "follow-on" from the surreally humorous Misery Farm recorded in the 30s by the likes of Al Bowlly.

However, a web search fails to reveal the full lyrics. There are recordings by a John Williamson who would appear to be Australian, and by a group called Current 93. Neither of these sets of lyrics contain the verse with the epic lines:

The sun went down behind yon hill
Six months ago and we're waiting still
We're miserable, ......
