Dave, regarding your original question about the hats... People have absolutely NO real idea why they arbitrarily decide something like "It's not right to wear a hat inside a pub." They have no frikkin' idea whatsoever. They heard it from somebody else who heard it from somebody else who heard it from somebody else who heard it from some fool who heard it from somebody else who likewise had no idea.

It's totally arbitrary, like most of the other cultural stuff we are accustomed to.

I used to wear a leather cowboy hat all the time...wore it right through the whole 70's. Why? I figured it gave me that cool folk musician look, I guess, and I liked it. Occasionally some uptight jerk somewhere would ask me to remove it in a restaurant or something like that.

He didn't have any real idea why either, I assure you...
