re: the viola da gamba players: do you mean "Tous les matins du monde"? It was about Sainte Coulombe, the 17th century viol player, and his protege Marin Marais, and starred Gerard Depardieu? Jordi Savall -- a remarkable viola da gamba player, among his other talents -- was responsible for putting together the film's music.
