Apologies , I don't want to get pythonish about this , but I remenber when it was 1/10d. Spoken - was said "0ne and ten" which meant One Shilling and Ten pence. About 9 new pence todays money. Dad said the same as somone else has also remarked "If it goes over Two Bob ( two shillings ) , I'm packing up drinking ",which of course he never did .
Speaking of old money ,the most difficult phrase I hit upon as a kid, not using pounds and shillings - only pence, was when I bought 2 bus tickets for me and my mate who were obviously going to different stops. The prices were 11 pence and 10 pence but spoken came out something like "an ellempenny and a tempenny please ".
Difficult at the time.
Give my regards to Gedpipe will ya ??
Cheers,

Betsy
