I can understand a kid at MacDonalds not know what a "dozen" is much more than a half of one. I can also understand them wanting to give you exactly what is written on the menu. But it does say something about changes in our culture.

Here's another one. Carol and I went to a beach shop on Carolina Beach. She was looking for a hat. I asked the clerk, about twenty, who looked fashionable and culturally aware, if she had any fedoras. She hadn't heard of fedoras. I said you know the kind of hat Humphrey Bogart used to wear. "Who?"
