This is the second large appliance we've replaced this year. The other waa a 3 year old dryer -- it would have cost more to fix than the new one did!

This sort of thing annoys the heck out of me, because I'm used to major appliances lasting for years and years. It seems to me that buying a new one wastes not only money but resources AND contributes to pollution -- but it makes economic sense to do so.

Fortunately, there's a "gray market" in old appliances. They're taken by people who CAN fix them and used or even sold.
