"recorded music= a "jam"

I personally have never heard the term "jam" used to describe recorded Music other than in the name of the recording Label 'Def Jam'

I have heard it used in these ways:

Jam = Musicians improvising (a Jam session)

Jamming = a Musican or Band improvising onstage.

Jammin (Jamaican patoi) = celebration, dancing.
