Good stuff. Now why did the the USA not do similar things in Cuba when it was under Batista? Why did they instead turn the island into a floating casino/whorehouse/playground for rich crooks from Florida and the rest of mainland USA?

Well, who knows? I guess maybe the scenery was nicer in Cuba or something. They've got wonderful beaches there, and Havana Harbour is something to see.
