Hey Mudcatters, maybe you can help me on this one. When I was a kid in 1956 or 57 I saw a movie on TV and it is the only time I've ever seen it. I don't know it's name or who the actors were but I vividly remember the story. It opens with two greek looking god types superimposed against a starry background and one is telling the other to watch what happens. A giant ghostly finger comes down and touches a man as he is walking down the street. The man turns into a local tavern, is greeted in a way that lets you know that he is kind of the butt of the joke. In the course of events he makes a bar room wager that he can turn a lamp upside down without touching it and lo and behold, he does it! When he returns home he begins to explore his new powers and a really great sequence of slight-of-hand takes place. Things rock along with interpersonal relationships and prodigious application of absolute power until finally this guy is king of the world and is holding court in this open air Greco-Roman palace. I can't remember the conundrum that was at issue before him but a courtier points out that he doesn't have enough time, the sun is setting whereupon he decides that is no problem. He has the power to stop the Earth, Before the courtisan can explain the consequences of such an act he so orders it and everything goes flying off into space. With gasping desparation he wishes that everything could go back to before he had the power and suddenly the scene reverts to him walking down the street and turning into the bar. He makes his bet and nothing happens. The folks at the bar have a good laugh at his expense and the scene shifts back to the gods. The one says to the other, "See, it happens that way every time." It's really a much more interesting and entertaining movie than my poor, brief discription but I hope someone recognizes it and can lay a name to it. Thanks for your help!
