Ian Tyson is the 'godfather' of the current Western music revival. The CD "Eighteen Inches Of Rain" is very even.

Other vetrans of the craft are Don Edwards, "Red" Steagall (as much a story-teller), The Sons of the San Joaquin, and "Skip" Gorman.

Other professional singers like Michael Martin Murphey and Peter Rowan try their hand at 'cowboy music', as do singer-songwriters like LA's Tom Russell.

Folkies should try "High Lonesome Cowbay" CD. It's Peter Rowan, but he shares duties with Tony Rice, Norman and Nancy Blake, and Don Edwards.
