Who was it who said: 'Build a 50-foot wall and someone will build a 51-foot ladder'?

Walls and fences between countries are insane. A 700-mile fence on a 2000-mile long border between Mexico and the US may slow entry but it will have to be continually staffed and policed, and since nothing stays static the situation will either become improbably better or significantly worse. It isn't hard to visualize people shot and killed for trying to enter.

Why the US doesn't officially recognize that if there are no jobs for illegal entrants they will cease to come is beyond me. If businesses were closed and the owner(s) sent to prison every time they were found in violation of a no-hire policy, business would quickly resolve the perceived problem.
