Chris - nowadays (in Queensland) the vehicle gets towed not clamped - organised by the Police if necessary, and the victim has to pay whatever the Tow Company wants... in some cases 'on the spot' fines may also be issued.

Towaway Zones are posted in some areas for traffic movement, and you will most likely be towed (organised by the Police) if you are blocking things like fire hydrants, driveways, etc.

Actually you Shiny Bum guys may want to think about the Vic Police booking motorists for 3% over the speed limit, when cars are manufactured to the Australian Design Rules which specifies that speedometers are designed only to a tolerance of 10%... :-)
