Yes, but when connecting a balanced source to an unbalance input you have to unbalance it at the input end... that was what I was saying, in essence.

The question was really relating to a so-called 'polarised' guitar lead, which is really just a fancy unbalanced cable which offers slightly better noise cancellation than simple co-axial cable by using a twisted pair.
