Thread Name: BS: Trick 'r Treat.................
Subject: RE: BS: Trick 'r Treat.................
We moved from Suburbia to our remote and humble cabin in the woods some fifteen years ago, and haven't had any experience with trick-or-treaters since.

But this year, we just happened to be in town doing some shopping and stopped by our suburban daughter's house for dinner. I don't know whether it's just her neighborhood or whether trick-or-treating has changed for kids everywhere, but this is what I observed:

There were absolutely no kids simply walking the neighborhood. They were all chauffered. Every kid who came to the door had been driven by parents.

Kids seem to no longer assume that everybody's going to have goodies. The only houses they stop at are ones that are obviously decorated and advertising "We're participating in Halloween! We have goodies!" When I was a kid we went to every house in the neighborhood unless all the lights were out indicating nobody was home.

Times change...
