No, Guest, it reminded me of the enigmatic premise of Engine Summer. You wouldn't get what I meant until you read the book, if you decide to read it. One of my favourite books, by the way. It haunts me by popping up in my brain at unexpected moments. (I read it originally about 15 years ago.) It's like Hermann Hesse's The Glass Bead Game, in that way, because that novel is a part of my brain's architecture now, too.
