But his face would show, he'd lived a lot more life.

    And the storyteller knew a time, that I have never seen,
    Two world wars, covered wagons and a clumsy Model T.
    But if I can draw the wisdom from the life he shared with me,

He'd go on about his farmland, how high the corn must be now,
If we'd only get a rain next week or two.
But the stories he repeated, over and over,
Were about the many people that he knew.

    And the storyteller knew of men that I have never seen,
    The local hero, countless farmers, and his high school baseball team.
    But if I can draw the wisdom from the life he shared with me,

He was just a simple farmer, who loved to tell his stories,
But I found in him a living testament.
To the value of a lifetime following a Savior,
Who promised us a life, more abundant.

    And the storyteller knew a faith that I have never seen,
    Trust in God, true contentment, and a soft humility.
