A variation of Ms. Fish's version was collected by Lomax. And I found a retired sailor (who had sailed on the Prussein, on the Flying P line) who sang a similar version, with the chorus:

Well it's Hi! laddie, Ho! laddie
Swing the capstain 'round.
When your money's all gone it's the same old song
Get up Jack, John sit down.

Makes one to wonder which version came first.
