Further to my comment about Thompson guitars, I played a fantastic maple and cedar one at Woodshed music in Guelph (Canada) last week. Easily one of the best sounding guitars I've played, and fit and finish was top notch too. Folkway music in Guelph had a nice selection of guitars as well, but that Thompson is the stuff of dreams.
