I agree somewhat with Malcolm (especially the singer-songwriter rarely having to do with folk comment). I like U. Utah Philips remark that "Folk music is not owned by anyone. we own it together like the national forest and the airways. songwriters make grape juice. It can turn into either wine or vinegar.
