I think I did this programme a disservice. After suffering endless streams of god awful gor blimey non-informative talking head music docs, not the least awful of which was the execerable Folk Britannia, I decided to give Folk Hibernia a miss. In the end I turned over about 20 minutes from the finish and ended up watching what appeared to have been a perceptive and well thought out documentary.

No I don't like Horslips or the Chieftains or the Pogues or Moving Hearts or indeed any of the bands which were featured while I was watching. But at least the programme makers seemed to be saying something constructive about the development of modern Irish society and how that has influenced the path of Irish music.

I'll set the video to catch the repeat. If nothing else, it will be worth seeing for that clip of the greased lightning step dancer who appears at the end. Was he on speed or what ?
