Tom Russell (My Man!) recorded it on Indians Cowboys Horses Dogs. He changed the Hawker to an "old cowboy," and bingo, it was a cowboy song. I think he sings the line in question as "each night at the old time parade." I get a lot of requests to sing it at gigs - all from the same person.
