There's a folk story about Jack that seems somehow relevant.

Jack is in a forest, and along comes a bunch of fierce giants. So he hides up a tree.

And when they are sitting down having a meal round their campfire, Jack throws an acorn, first at one and then at another; and they start accusing each other of doing it, and they get to quarrelling and then to fighting.

And when they have finished killing each other, Jack gets down out of the tree, steps over the bodies, and finishes off their supper.
