Actually, the inflation problem ("hyperinflation") in Germany was a post-war phenomena of the early 1920s, and it was entirely because nobody (including the Germans) would accept the old German mark in payment for anything. This was ended with the introduction of a new mark in, I think, 1924-5. By the 1930s, the Germans were producing LOTS of hard goods (tanks and bullets).
