I was without central heating for a couple of months. I bought a couple of space heaters and borrowed another. When it got really cold the space heaters weren't enough, but at least if you sat right in front of them you would be warm. Get a couple and put them around the house. The kind with the blower uses more electricity but is also a lot more effective.
