I HATE it when Internet Explorer or my keyboard buffer or whoever it is just arbitrarily drops letters out of my words, making "numbs" of "numbers" and a thousand other similar offenses.

Have you considered a) using a GOOD Internet browser instead of IE and b) using some decent machine, like a Sun or RS?
