With regard to Brits doing an American accent, some 20+ years ago there were some British radio adaptions of Raymond Chandler (Philip Marlowe) novels. The British cast were uniformly good, as I recall, in affecting believable accents. [In America we'd say, "The British cast 'was' good.]
