I was at a concert once when some local people came on. They started singing- and a voice right behind me joined in with harmony. As it happened, the owner of the voice was good - but it was distracting and not what I had paid for.

I turned around and said, You are very good, but I want to hear THEM.

I confess that I've been guilty of that myself, in the past. Usually, in my own defense, when the performance was in a pub or other licensed premises, and I'd been doing my share to help support the venue.

Fortunately, when my children became adults, they were willing to tell me I was being obnoxious without worrying about hurting my feelings. And I don't drink that much any more, anyway.
