The Amish make an identical claim for their patchwork quilts. I asked a patchwork quilt expert whether this applied to Durham quilt makers.

Her answer was that it was virtually impossible to make a perfect quilt anyway (especially when a number of people were working on them at the same time as sometimes happened) so all quilts had mistakes in them. Even when made by one person. I am sure this applies to carpets just the same
