Many years ago, Jon Isherwood was booked to perform at the Hitchin Folk Club when it was being held in a pub, the name escapes me, close to the railway station. Unfortunately, for some reason he couldn't make it and sent a mate along instead. Maureen got up to introduce him. She said "I know nothing about him but give him a big hand anyway.... It's Jasper Carrott"

The pub was the Talisman, now long gone (demolished and replaced by an office block).

About 2 weeks ago, Maureen celebrated her 40th year of running Hitchin Folk Club (held in the Sun these days), and the surprise guest was none other than the aforementioned Mr Carrott, making (probably) his first appearance there since the occasion above.
