Shaun is quite a common anglicised spelling for Sean, to help make sure it gets pronounced right, I suppose (which isn't the case with the other altyernative spelling, Shane).

"I believe there's a pun here that most Americans would miss, that is, Shaun = Shorn." Aren't Americans familiar with the word "shorn"? I'm surprised at that - it crops up a few times in the Bible, both New and Old Testaments. (I mean in the main translations into English.)
