Agreed, McGrath. I was simply replying to your point And I can't really see how "shorn" could really be pronounced any differently. There is a slight difference between the two cases (the 'r' is pronounced or left silent), but as you say, in the context of a pun, it shouldn't really make much difference to the understanding.
