First time I went to the US, there was a Peanut Bar in the hotel. You would just sit on your bar stool and drink beer and eat the peanuts while you drank, the nuts being kindly provided free, in bowls on the bar. When you ate them they would just refill the bowls.

The nuts were in their shells, and you were encouraged to shell the nuts as you ate them, and just throw the shells on the floor. By the end of the evening, the floor would be almost literally ankle deep in nut shells.

Was that a common type of bar in the US? I only ask because I've never seen a similar one since. Does anyone else know of or remember such a bar?
