I have DSL from Earthlink, and am very happy with it. They use whatever phone company serves your area, and "give" you the DSL modem (one-year contract required). Check with them here to see if they are available in your area. I pay $55 per month for the connection and the internet service, which is more than some other providers charge, but they have local dial-up numbers all over, which is convenient when I'm traveling and there is no fast connection available. They have an introductory offer for the first few months, but that shouldn't drive your choice.
