Thanks, NIgel. I had thought of that, too, but all I thought to ask about was the wifi card, which I had her remove. Nothing helped. I know the dvd drive has been empty as she put in one I'd sent and it played fine, then she took it out. I will double-check with her, though.

Sorcha, I know it is something simple, I *think* and it costs too much to replace it as the moment.:-)
