Coincidentally we are changing our clocks back to non-daylight saving on Sunday morning early. That's here in Oz, so maybe that's where the extra hour goes. It comes down to us and then we give it back to you when your changeover occurs again. So it just goes back and forth around the earth looking for somewhere to settle down.

I like daylight saving. Well, I did before I started the late shift. The theory was - in my mind - that I could leave work with enough time to go for a swim in summer. But the practicality is that I am always doing something more mundane, like grocery shopping or making dinner.

For a whacked out theoretical concept it does actually seem to work, in a funny psychological way. What was I going to do with that hour of daylight in the morning anyway? I would still be getting up with just enough time to spare to get to work on time. At least I get to use the hour at a time when I am awake to appreciate it.

But that extra hour of daylight saving does fade the curtains, you know. And it doesn't really work for dairy farmers who are ruled by the sun-up, sun-down clock and not by something arbitrary and mechanical (or digital).
