James Connolly was indeed wounded in the fighting at the GPO. His injuries were so severe that he had to be tied to a chair, in order to be executed. Connolly, IMO, is probably the key figure in the Rising. Were it not for his bringing his Citizens Army to bear, the Rising likely wouldn't have come off.

He is a personal hero of mine. I have a number of books and collections by and about him. Many folks might not realize, but Connolly wrote a whole pamphlet of song lyrics. He was a Union Organizer, a lyricist, and a Socialist. He organized for the Industrial Workers of the World (the IWW, or Wobblies) in Scotland and in the United States.
