the bean counters decided that the watching public would prefer a known name, even if he was an utter klutz and failed utterly (and thus they could laugh at him) instead of an unknown, no matter how competent he was. I suspect that a few failed ex-US TV executives were involved in that decision...

Many of us unknowns fight this sort of discrimination!
