A neighbor has told me about the Old South Pancake House. Sounds wonderful, but you might want to think twice about it if you have any coronary health issues. ;-)

My favorite Mexican restaurant is La Playa Maya, on Hemphill, in the heart of an at best "marginal" neighborhood. But it's wonderful food at good prices. Just south of the Travis Avenue Baptist Church annex building on Hemphill on the west side of the street. (I park in the church parking lot because my pickup is sometimes not easy to maneuver in their own smallish lot). There is a second location on the north side of town on Main Street. Both of these are in restored old Victorian-era houses.
