Toobusybee, if you want an easy drive out in to a more rural part of Texas and a chance to see a small historic town, a trip to Granbury (southwest of Fort Worth) fills an afternoon nicely. Your local relatives will no doubt know of the place. There is a beautiful little Courthouse square and though you might have to park on a side street and walk back it is a pretty walk and I love the Victorian houses and old limestone buildings. A few minutes further, beyond Granbury to Glen Rose, takes you to a state park with the first recorded dinosaur footprints (at least, there are enough of these footprints that scientists were able to measure stride and speed of specific types of animals). Great place for a picnic!
