I also have known Barry as a fellow musician and a friend for about 25 years through our association with Lizzie Dripping, City Morris and the Cloggies and numerous sessions. We rather lost touch in recent years (I live in S. W. France) but I was hoping to see him in Sheffield this Summer which makes his passing all the more sad.
As others have said, his enthusiasm for English traditional music and dance were boundless and infectious. I'll remember him as a very kind, generous and gentle man and a friend. RIP Barry.
