Thread Name: Ever played a Yamaha guitar?
Subject: RE: Ever played a Yamaha ?
I bought an FG 180 very early 70's - still have it.
Everyone on the British folk scene seemed to have them e.g. Christy Moore , Barbara Dickson , Vin Garbutt to name a few.
I understand it was a "copy" of the Martin D28 which most of them couldn't afford at the time .
Great workhorse , travelled well, light in weight , and plenty of sound. ( P.A.'s were not a norm in the 60's / early seventies Folk Clubs)
Now have a Martin. I bought in 1994 it from Music Ground in Donacaster. I took my Yamaha to test against used Martins ( in case I could avoid buying a new Martin) but although they had plenty of used ones - none of them came up to the quality of the Yamaha.
I bought a new HD 28 , but recently bought one of Martins "plastic" guitars , or as a lautist friensd calls them "formica" guitars.
The sound form this one (strangely) is the most satisfactory in volume and tone, and very good through a PA System
