Kendall -- I think what they meant to imply was that it took three deckhands (with two hands each) to manage the wheel. That would be one of them six-foot diameter wheels I expect. Hermaphrodite indeed! Besides, I've never seen it written that hermaphrodites got an extra hand in the deal, although it would be sorta appropriate, I guess...all things considered.
