My ice axe is hanging inconspicuously by the back door. I know how to use it on a glacier, and I know how to use it as a weapon. (Don't waste your time with a wind-up to swing the axe over your shoulder or head, use it for a direct thrust with the bottom point. It'll do the trick without the warning and frontal exposure offered by a swing).
