meself - my immediate thought was to think of the Robin and Barry Dransfield song (from A.L.Lloyd) 'Talcahuano Girls' which has the same tune and similar lyrics, and where it's 'I can dance, I can sing, I can walk the jib boom' - I always assumed that it referred to the tricky business of walking along a spar in (probably) dangerous conditions.
