When Miss Barky Montesquieu was 12 years of age, her father had been shot down by a lone northerner. Miss Montesquieu had been naught but 15 feet away, and, as she watched in horror, the man shot her father, looked at her with an evil-looking leer on his face, and said, "Honey, that'll take care of all your troubles." The sound of a gunshot had infuriated her ever since. "Let's go, Mistah Slim. I've a right min' to find out what's goin' on heah." Miss Montesquieu accepted the proffered arm with gratitude, and she and Slick walked down to search for the source of the shot.
