"The damage to the Earth is the same whether it happens in Mexico or if it happens in the U.S. Environmental issues are international."

                That's true, but Americans have very little control over environmental damage in Mexico, and the population there does not seem to be going down, even though millions of them are moving to the US. In order to keep the environmental integrity in the US, it would benefit Americans to try to contain the population growth here.
