We Hoosiers would opt for a yard of steel. Then we wouldn't have to cut the grass. Steel's impractical though. Too expensive, and the expansion rate over an acre in the hot sun -- causes buckling around the shrubbery. I hate buckling around the shrubbery.

Concrete or gravel painted green works fine.
