Hi, Mom-o-Mom!!

It did not remain here rain with us.

Sorry--I have been maundering around trying to get my wits around linguistics, and that dragged me into Suppes' remarkable cross-disciplinary genius which led me to the following charming account, excerpted here:

The Bell inequalities give necessary and sufficient conditions
for such correlated phenomena as the spin of particles, often represented
in entanglement experiments by the polarization of photons, to
have hidden variables as common causes of the correlations. The point
of the inequalities is to give a condition just in terms of the observable
correlations for there to be such hidden causes. It turns out, not
initially clear that this is the case, that the inequalities are equivalent
to requiring that the random variables or probabilistic events having
the pairwise correlations must have a joint probability distribution of
all four together. So Bell's requirement was just equivalent to a wellknown
probabilistic problem for a great variety of special cases: when
do random variables having certain marginal distributions have a joint
distribution?

The subject is messy and full of tantalizing partial results.
Some of the nice earlier results, with no connection with quantum
mechanics, were given by the distinguished French mathematician
Maurice Frechet, whom I met in the 1960s in Paris, but, as is usually
so for me and other academics who talk to a lot of different people, I
cannot remember anything about our conversations. (John Bell I did
meet once and had a very good talk about the foundations of physics
at the Stanford Faculty Club; Bell, like a lot of other scientists who are
well-known for conceptual innovations, had a strong natural interest in
philosophy.

I d0on't mind telling you, I am coming to the conclusion that I cannot be myself as a hobby with stuff like this coming at me from strange directions. It's a full-time job!!!

BBW continues to grow strong and is fiercely independent even when she could use some help with her sling-and-arm. She's under very narrow constraints of movement -- must not move left arm using own shoulder muscles under any corcumstances. She can move it passively, such as by laying it on a counter and moving back from it, or having someone move it through degrees of motion.

The pain attacks from her surgery are well under control and she is down to one Vicodin in the evening, and occasional Ibuprofen other times, to keep it manageable. She is an astonishing, strong, bright woman.

Aren't ya glad I married her, Mom?   I yam. You have no IDEA how much trouble I would have been, if I hadn't done that.
