Thread Name: BS: More planets!
Subject: RE: BS: More planets!
Jupiter is not particularly close to its parent star. But, I believe, some of these 'super-Jupiters' are as close to their stars as Mercury is to the Sun. Surely the outer layers of such planets are gaseous and it must be a titanic struggle between high temperatures and gravity - and what about the gravity field of the parent star - wouldn't that tend to strip the outer layers of (hot) gas away?
